I’M THE PERSON BEHIND THE CAMERA!
My name is Jocelyn (Joce) Hyde (she/her) - I'm a self taught photographer and just recently quit my day job as a human-wildlife conflict coordinator in order to put all of my time and effort into my photography business. While I adore taking photos of people, I'm also passionate about protecting our planet and the wildlife that live here. That passion took me to BCIT where I worked my tail off for a diploma in Natural Resources. I promise to not only have you giggling and chatting about yourself during your shoot, but I'll also talk your ear off about any plants and animals we see.
During my childhood, there was always a camera present and for that, I am so thankful. I have dozens and dozens of photo albums from every part of my childhood which slowly turned into dozens of online albums once I got my first digital camera (pink Canon PowerShot... ifykyk).
I'm here to ensure that you and your loved ones have the same thing I have - wonderful memories to forever look back on. It's a cliché but photos are some of the only things you can take with you through life. From someone whose grandparents took as many photos as they could from the 1940's and on, the younger generations will be SO thankful.
The Why
I often think about what my life will look like when I’m 80 years old and am met with a lot of (understandably) unknowns. I don’t know if I’ll have children, I don’t know where I’ll be living and I don’t know what people will still be in my life. That being said, there are a lot of “knowns” too. I know my husband will be sitting next to me, I know we’ll have loved multiple fur babies throughout life, I know we'll have traveled the world and I know that the walls of our house will be covered in decades of photos.
My goal is not solely to take photos so that my clients have these moments forever frozen to take with them through life. My goals are so much more than just that one, simple thing. I want to help people heal. I want to help everyone see themselves how others see them. You know that saying, “I wish you could see yourself through my eyes"? That’s what I have the ability to do.
I love making people happy with my photos. Hands down, it’s the best thing about my job. The #1 biggest compliment I’ve ever received? “I HATE photos of myself… but I LOVE these photos. How did you do it? How did you make us look like this?” I then have the pleasure of walking them to the realization that I did nothing but capture the love they have for themselves, their fur baby, their partner, or their family.
3 things about me
I'm madly in love
I married the love of my life in March 2023 surrounded by our closest loved ones.
I love nature
Anything and everything outdoors has my heart. My Grandpa was a forester who spent almost every single day of his life outside, so it's in my DNA.
I have 2 fur babies
I'm a proud cat mom to the 2 cutest kitties in the world. They're great at getting into trouble and sleeping on the job.
